Professor Andrew Chi-chih Yao was born in Shanghai and grew up in Taiwan. He received a Bachelor of Science in Physics from Taiwan University, a doctorate degree in Physics from Harvard University, and another one in Computer Science from the University of Illinois. Professor Yao served on the faculty at MIT, Stanford, UC Berkeley and Princeton University. He left Princeton to join Tsinghua University and founded the world-renowned research center, Institute for Interdisciplinary Information Sciences (IIIS). He is currently the Dean of IIIS. He is also a Distinguished Professor-at-Large at the Chinese University of Hong Kong. Professor Yao's research interests are in the theory of computation and its applications. He received numerous honours and awards including the prestigious A.M. Turing Award 2000 for his groundbreaking contributions to the theory of computation, the George Polya Prize, the Donald E. Knuth Prize, and honorary degrees from leading universities in Hong Kong (CityU, UST, CU and PolyU), University of Waterloo, and the University of Macau. He is a member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and foreign member of the US National Academy of Sciences, and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.

Xiongfeng Ma’s main research interest lies on quantum information and quantum optics, particularly in quantum cryptography and quantumness measures. After obtaining his BSc at Peking University in 2003, Xiongfeng attended the University of Toronto for his PhD degree. From 2008 to 2011, he did his post-doc and visiting researcher positions at the University of Waterloo, the University of Toronto, and the University of Leeds. In 2012, Xiongfeng joined Tsinghua University as an assistant professor.

Dr. Dong-Ling Deng is an tenured associate professor at the Institute for Interdisciplinary Information Sciences, Tsinghua University. He then studied at the Chern Institute of Mathematics and got a master's degree in theoretical physics. After that, he moved to the University of Michigan and obtained his Ph.D. in physics, with a dissertation awarded the "Kent M. Terwilliger Memorial Thesis Prize". Kaisheng Ma is a tenured associate professor of computer science in Institute for Interdisciplinary Information Sciences (IIIS), Tsinghua University. He leads the Algorithms, Architecture and Chipset Lab (ArChip). His research interests lie in the interdisciplinary fields of human-machine interface (HMI), brain-spired AI algorithm design, computer vision for self-driving, compact model design, computer architecture and microelectronics. Yong Xu is an assistant professor in the Institute for Interdisciplinary Information Sciences at Tsinghua University. He received his B.S. degree from Lanzhou University in 2005 and PhD degree from Institute of Physics, Chinese Academy of Science in 2013. In 2017, he joined the IIIS at Tsinghua University as an assistant professor, after his postdoc training at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. Mingyu Gao is an associate professor of computer science in the Institute for Interdisciplinary Information Sciences (IIIS) at Tsinghua University in Beijing, China. He received his PhD in Electrical Engineering at Stanford University. His research interests lie in the fields of computer architecture and systems, including efficient memory architectures, scalable data processing, and hardware system security, with a special emphasis on data-intensive applications like artificial intelligence and big data analytics. Yang Yuan is a tenured associate professor at IIIS, Tsinghua. He finished his undergraduate study at Peking University in 2012. Jianyu Chen is an assistant professor in Institute of Interdisciplinary Information Sciences at Tsinghua University. Yilei Chen Yilei Chen is an assistant professor at Tsinghua University IIIS. Before joining Tsinghua he was a researcher at VISA Research. In 2018 he got his Ph.D. from Boston University under the guidance of Professor Ran Canetti and Professor Leonid Reyzin. He attended college at Shanghai Jiao Tong University. Yilei's research interest is in cryptography, especially in the areas of pseudorandomness, lattice, number theory, and quantum computation. Tao Du is an Assistant Professor at the Institute for Interdisciplinary Information Sciences (IIIS), Tsinghua University. His research combines physics simulation, machine learning, and numerical optimization techniques to solve real-world inverse dynamics problems. His work has been published at top-tier graphics and learning conferences, including SIGGRAPH, ICLR, ICML, NeurIPS, and others. Before joining Tsinghua University, he works with Dr. Vladlen Koltun at Intel Research on using deep learning for autonomous driving. In 2016, Yang interns at Waymo, the autonomous driving department at Google. He made important improvements to the vision component of the vehicle. Tianxing He is currently an assistant professor at IIIS-Tsinghua. His current research interest is in AI-related social simulation, gaming, and safety.He worked with Yulia Tsvetkov in UW on natural language generation as a postdoc. Before UW, he did PhD in MIT supervised by James Glass. His master was in SJTU SpeechLab supervised by Kai Yu. He was also from ACM 10 (SJTU). During his postdoc, he worked on developing algorithms or protocols for a trustworthy cyberspace in the era of large language models. During his PhD, he worked towards a better understanding of how the current large language models work.

Trapped-ion quantum computing; Quantum information processing with NV centers in diamond

Pan-Yu Hou is an assistant professor at the Institute for Interdisciplinary Information Sciences, Tsinghua University. He obtained his bachelor's and doctoral degrees in Physics from Tsinghua University. His Ph.D. research focused on experimental quantum information and quantum control using color centers and phonon modes in diamond systems under the supervision of Prof. Lu-Ming Duan. He joint Ion Storage Group at NIST Boulder, in the U.S. in 2018 as a postdoc and used trapped ions for quantum computing. His research interest lies in the physical implementation of quantum information processing, including large-scale quantum computing using trapped ions, as well as many-body quantum simulation and quantum sensing using nitrogen-vacancy centers in diamond. He has published nearly 20 papers in highly-selected physics journals and serves as a reviewer and guest editor for several journals.

Kaifeng Lyu will be joining the Institute for Interdisciplinary Information Sciences (IIIS) at Tsinghua University as an Assistant Professor in the fall of 2025. His primary research interests include machine learning theory, AI safety/alignment, and optimization. Kaifeng Lyu graduated from the special pilot class (Yao class) at IIIS, Tsinghua University in 2019. He is currently a final-year PhD student at Princeton University, advised by Prof. Sanjeev Arora. Kaifeng Lyu has made fundamental contributions to understanding optimization and generalization in deep learning. His work has been published at top international conferences such as NeurIPS, ICML, and ICLR.

Dr. Pu is an assistant professor at the Institute for Interdisciplinary Information Sciences at Tsinghua University. His main research focuses on quantum network and quantum computation based on cold atoms and trapped ions. He received his BSc and Phd at Tsinghua University in 2012 and 2018. He then did his post-doctoral research at University of Innsbruck. In 2021, Yunfei joined Tsinghua University as an assistant professor.

Yifan Song is an assistant professor at the Institute for Interdisciplinary Information Sciences (IIIS) at Tsinghua University. In 2017, he received the bachelor's degree in Yao Class at Tsinghua University. In 2022, he received the Ph.D. degree from Carnegie Mellon University, advised by Prof. Vipul Goyal. Yuhao Wang is currently an assistant professor in IIIS, Tsinghua University. Before that, Yuhao Wang was a postdoctoral research associate at the University of Cambridge. Li Yi is a tenure-track assistant professor in the Institute for Interdisciplinary Information Sciences (IIIS) at Tsinghua University. He received his Ph.D. from Stanford University, advised by Professor Leonidas J. Guibas. And he was previously a Research Scientist at Google working closely with Professor Thomas Funkhouser. Before joining Stanford, he got his B.E. in Electronic Engineering from Tsinghua University. His research interests span across 3D computer vision, computer graphics, and robot learning, and his mission is to equip robotic agents with the ability of understanding and interacting with the 3D world. He has published more than 20 papers at CVPR, ICCV, ECCV, NeurIPS, SIGGRAPH, SIGGRAPH Asia, etc and he serves as an Area Chair for CVPR 2022. He has gained more than 6000 citations and his representative works include ShapeNet, spectral graph CNNs, PointNet++.

I got my PhD from MIT under supervision of Prof. Suvrit Sra and Prof Ali Jadbabaie. My research was about understanding optimization in deep learning setups. Currently I aim to provide analysis for training neural networks. I am also interested in understanding learning theory from a dynamical system and understand dynamical system from a learning perspective. Before attending MIT, I did my undergrad at UC Berkeley under supervision of Prof Laura Waller, where I worked on wave optics and computational imaging.

Dr. Hang Zhao is an Assistant Professor at the Institute of Interdisciplinary Information Sciences, Tsinghua University. He got his Ph.D. degree from MIT, and a bachelor's degree from Zhejiang University. His main research interests are multimodal machine learning, autonomous driving, and robotics. During his Ph.D. study, Dr. Hang Zhao was supervised by Professor Antonio Torralba, director of the MIT AI+Decision, focusing on visual and auditory crossmodal learning research. He also worked as a part-time researcher at Facebook, NVIDIA, and MERL. After MIT, Dr. Hang Zhao worked as a research scientist at Waymo (known as Google Self-driving), mainly developing multi-sensor learning and motion prediction algorithms. His published works such as VectorNet, TNT, and Open Dataset have become the most widely used algorithm models and data sets in the autonomous driving industry. Dr. Hang Zhao has published more than 40 papers in many high-level academic conferences and journals such as CVPR, ICCV, ECCV, NeurIPS, SIGCOMM, ICRA, etc., and has been cited more than 8,000 times. He has won the ICCP Best Paper Award, Snap Research Fellow, Forbes China 30 Under 30.

Shuran Zheng is a tenure-track Assistant Professor in the Institute for Interdisciplinary Information Sciences at Tsinghua University. Before coming to Tsinghua, she obtained her Ph.D. in Computer Science at Harvard University in 2022. After that, she spent one year as a postdoctoral researcher at Carnegie Mellon University. During the fall of 2022, she was a Student Researcher at Google Research NYC. Broadly speaking, her research is situated at the intersection of Economics and Computer Science. In particular, she is interested in understanding the value of data and information. Her research uses concepts and tools from Economics (especially Mechanism Design), Machine Learning, and Algorithm Design.
